Ski runs in Dubai, poor factories in India, carbon busting lights of Hong Kong, diminishing forests of Papua New Guinea. Sustainability unites these through the lens of "quality of life for people". It is about helping everyone achieve a quality of life without reducing the chances of others to do the same. What do we mean by quality of life? Skiing in a desert might be fun, but the impacts are high. Walking along a beach in Cornwall has a much lower impact. Maybe not always convenient for work, but a great place to relax and do some new thinking.
I graduated as a geologist and marine biologist in the late 80s but soon found that counting dead muddy worms was not what I was born to do. So I took a leap of faith and entered the world of retail having guessed (correctly as it turned out) that the eco-thing would one day touch them and that they would need a geological, dead worm counter to help them understand the issues.
